Bear Creek High School believes that regular, daily attendance and punctuality in class is of prime importance in the educational process. All students are expected to attend school for all days of the established school calendar as approved annually by the Jeffco Board of Education and in compliance with the Colorado School Attendance Law.
Attendance is the responsibility of the student, parents, families, and the school. The importance of regular daily attendance as a basis for academic achievement cannot be overemphasized. All absences have a negative impact on learning regardless of the attempts to make up work.
The Board of Education believes that the duplication of the classroom experience cannot be accomplished with after-school assignments. The school cannot teach students who are not present. The regular contact of the students with one another in the classroom and their participation in a well-planned instructional activity under the guidance of a competent teacher are vital to this purpose.
85% Attendance Policy
Students must maintain at least 85% attendance to be eligible to attend or participate in school events, including dances (Homecoming and Prom) and field trips.
- This policy applies to unexcused absences only.
- It also applies to students attending dances at other schools.
- Required field trips that impact a student’s grade are exempt from this policy.

Attendance in Jeffco
The importance of regular, daily school attendance as a basis for academic achievement cannot be overemphasized. Attendance is a shared responsibility of the student, the families and the school.
It is the family’s responsibility to ensure their student attends school and to notify the school when their student is absent for a legitimate reason, such as an illness or family emergency. Each family should also ensure their student’s school has their correct contact information so that the school is able to communicate about any attendance issues that may arise.
